And the geek universe implodes!

While we’ve heard a lot about Matt Smith’s film career lately (thanks to him shaving his head), Karen Gillan has also been hard at work. Let’s hope she doesn’t have to shave her head for her new role in Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Hollywood Reporter writes, “Details for Gillan’s role were not revealed, although it is known she will play the film’s lead female villain.”

Oh.

My.

God.

I can barely contain myself for how excited I am by this news. I actually found out in a bar last night and shouted a great deal. Gillan has been having quite a bit of post-Doctor Who fun playing a zombie, acting as a tech expert on Cartoon Network, and starring in a film with Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff. This may just be the role that rockets the Scottish actress to world domination status.

Marvel is putting together one hell of a cast for GotG though. We just found out this week Academy Award nominee Glenn Close had joined the cast which already includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista. There’s a good chance John C. Reilly will have a role as well.

THR also named Lee Pace and Michael Rooker (previously thought to be playing Yondu) as villains so Gillan will likely be spending a lot of time with them on set. Any guesses as to who she’ll play?
