The Warner Bros. adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has finally found its leading lady! The studio announced today that Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) will be playing the coveted female lead role opposite Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander.

Waterston will be playing Tina (or Porpentina, if you wanna get technical), a witch who lives in the US and meets Scamander when he stops in New York City during his travels as he finds and documents magical creatures. Warner Bros. confirmed Redmayne’s casting as well in their announcement about Waterston. The film is being penned by Rowling (her screenwriting debut!), who is also taking on producer duties along with Harry Potter producer David Heyman; Steve Kloves, writer of seven out of the eight Potter films; and Lionel Wigram. David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, is on board as director for Fantastic Beasts.
