The internet was busy doing three things during the Super Bowl halftime show yesterday. One was comparing Katy Perry’s flame outfit to literally every other character who ever wore flames. The next was talking about how ADORABLE those freaking sharks were. And the third was asking who Missy Elliot was. Let’s talk about this, shall we?
First, regardless of what you think of Katy Perry or her music, this is fantastic.
Today is for this girl. She had the dream, always believed in herself & her worth. Today she is the one smiling. pic.twitter.com/9jMh3hWubz — KATY PERRY (@katyperry) February 1, 2015
Now onto the countless number of things Perry’s flame outfit looked like:

Ahh, but the sharks. The sharks simply stole the show, no?
Their dancing and vacant eyes won us over but they might have remained a mystery had one reddit user not requested an AMA with them. Dancer Scott Myrick now has “Right Shark” listed on his Twitter bio and all is right with the world. In the reddit thread he wrote:
HELLOOOO EVERYONE!!! Yes I was the shark!!!!!! I dance for Katy on her prismatic world tour and have been with her for 5 years ! 1. It is up there.. I danced as a gingerbread man in her first tour the California dreams tour. And also her big purple cat, kitty purry. This is just another day in KP land. 2. The visibility was… Terrible. I ran into a palm tree but the camera missed it ;) 3. Patriots… Tom Brady. Duh 4. Well this is my 5th year workong for Katy and I was actually a horse chest piece in dark horse and had to change into the shark costume in 1:30 seconds. It was nuts! But I guess it’s just being at the right place at the right time hahah 5. Katy Perry sized duck. Hundo percent.
On the other fin, the left shark was Bryan Gaw (watch this brief but adorable behind the scenes vid). The sharks already have a Buzzfeed “Which Katy Perry Halftime Show Shark Are You?” quiz and a song by Jonathan Mann. Thank you both for what you’ve brought to this world. Also, in a cool bit of six degrees, TMS pal Dr. Andrea Letamendi’s sister did the halftime costumes.
My sister did an awesome job with the #SuperBowlXLIX #Halftime Show costumes! Those dancing sharks were the best!

Wow…kids don’t know their music history. #MissyElliot A photo posted by Wilhite Webster (@lacastrophe) on
Sigh. To that, Elliot said on Twitter, “Gnite y’all I
Regardless, when people started posting pictures of the little girl from Elliot’s videos to joke about her making a cameo in the performance I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be funny if that little girl was actually Katy Perry,” to which I quickly replied to myself, “Don’t be ridiculous, she’s not like, an adult yet.”
