Key and Peele Proves That You Don’t Have to be Female to be a Feminist
"It's the worst thing ever ALL THE TIME!"
We’ve talked about female comedians like Broad City’s Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, or Amy Schumer with relation to feminism, but it isn’t only lady comics looking to make the world a more equal, feminist place. Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele of the eponymous Key & Peele have been doing feminist and LGBTQ+-inclusive comedy for years, like Cunnilingus Class and Gay Wedding Advice. Well they recently released three additional sketches that get feminism down, and give me hope for the future of comedy.
Check out THE BEST PIRATE CHANTEY EVER!
And the Cunnilingus Class guys (or rather, women in disguise), are back to teach men a thing or two about menstruation in a TED Talk-like environment:
And the best part is, they always try to make women a part of these feminist sketches when possible. For example, the Cunnilingus Class guys are actually two women dressed as Key and Peele, hiding in male bodies to make their messages easier to spread (a sad commentary on how we listen to women in our culture). And this sketch, starring T-Boz and Chili from TLC, is a feminist call-back to a previous sketch they did:
Let it be known far and wide that you don’t have to be a lady comic to poke fun at the patriarchy. Comedy needs more allies like this.
