Things We Saw Today: Killing Eve Returns Tonight for Season Two
Plus Batman on the big screen and nature taking revenge on man!
SPOILER ALERT: This post discusses the ending of season one of Killing Eve.
There’s a lot of pop culture premieres to look forward to in 2019, and right at the top of that list is season two of BBC America’s Killing Eve. Critics fell in love with the show in 2018, which follows the twisty obsessive relationship between mild-mannered MI5 agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and international assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer).
The darkly comic spy series created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) earned tons of accolades last year, landing on several “Best of” lists, and earning Oh a Golden Globe and a SAG award. The second season will pick up right where the first left off, immediately after Eve stabs Villanelle in the belly.
Villanelle survives of course (there would hardly be a show without her) and the two continues their cat-and-mouse game. But if the trailers are anything to go by, the tables have turned and the balance of power has shifted. Eve has been promoted to MI6 while Villanelle is forced to skulk around in Crocs and unfashionable clothing like a wounded animal.
We also get a glimpse of Villanelle in the hospital, where she tells a fellow patient that she believes Eve’s stabbing was an act of love. Given the ways in which Villanelle has previously shown affection, this is hardly surprising.
Are you excited for the return of Killing Eve? the episode airs tonight on BBC America and AMC.
