Things We Saw Today: Kim Kardashian West to Visit White House to Plead for Clemency for Alabama Inmate Alice Marie Johnson

63-year-old Alice Marie Johnson is currently serving a life sentence without parole at the Aliceville Correctional Institution in Alabama … for a nonviolent drug conspiracy charge. Now in the 21st year of her sentence, the only chance she has at ever seeing the outside world again is clemency from a sitting president.

Kim Kardashian West has been following and publicizing the case for years, and is finally going to the White House today along with her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, to meet with the president and fight for not only Johnson’s release, but that of several other nonviolent offenders serving life sentences in U.S. prisons. While this meeting isn’t going to single-handedly bring about prison reform, it could mean a lot to several people serving outlandish sentences that do not fit the crimes with which they were charged.
