Kirsten Dunst Was Just as Devastated as You Were That Hillary Clinton Lost the Election

Donald Trump’s win (sorry for rehashing old wounds!) came as a shock to most of us, including Kirsten Dunst. Like the 55% of millennials who voted for Clinton, Dunst believed that she would be the next president. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

“I had to go to bed because we had to get up early for work,” Dunst recalled in an interview with Variety. “I was sure Hillary was going to win. I woke up and they told me and I started crying.” Given recent events and policy proposals, Lady Liberty must be weeping as well.

Dunst is set to star in the drama thriller The Beguiled, a remake of the 1971 film of the same name. She acts alongside Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell, and teams up with director Sofia Coppola for the third time. The two previously worked together on 1999’s The Virgin Suicides and 2006’s Marie Antoinette. The film centers on a group of women at an all-girls school in Virginia during the Civil War, and how a wounded soldier disrupts their everyday living. They soon find themselves in a web of sexual tension, rivalries, and unexpected events. You could also refer to this movie as, “Shut up and take my money!”

But if you’re looking for a rehash of the other film, think again. “The idea of remaking doesn’t make sense to me,” Sofia Coppola said. “This [story] stayed in my mind. And then I thought it would be interesting to tell the same premise from the point of view of the women characters.” So, it’s a remake but not really.

Dunst will also be stepping behind the camera for her directorial debut with The Bell Jar, based on the novel by Sylvia Plath. With Dakota Fanning attached to star, the remaining problem is money. “We need our financing,” Dunst added. “I’m telling you, I have so many great actresses attached. People are afraid of the name Sylvia and that this is a depressing movie, which it’s not at all…It’s always harder for women…Everyone has to work 10 times harder.”

Ain’t that the truth? I highly recommend you check out the rest of the interview here.
