Fed Up: Kristen Stewart Calls Out Hollywood’s Rampant Sexism

Say it. Out loud.

Kristen Stewart is now the latest actress to throw in her voice and thoughts about the rampant gender inequality issues in Hollywood. It seems that the women of Hollywood are now taking the opportunity to call out all the sexist bullshit they face every day. And they’re doing it en masse.

Stewart opened up about these issues in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK. She said, “Hollywood is disgustingly sexist. It’s crazy. It’s so offensive it’s crazy.” She goes on to say, “Women inevitably have to work a little bit harder to be heard.”

Preach.

Just this past week, Literal Queen Meryl Streep also called out Hollywood for its lack of empathy for women. And, a few days before that, Carey Mulligan, Rose Byrne, and Geena Davis all shared how sick they were of how Hollywood treats women. Add in a few choice red carpet moments from some of our favorite actresses, and it’s easy to see that things are starting to come to a head in Hollywood.

For all that fame can offer, it can sometimes make one feel powerless. Stewart explains, “When people say, ‘I want to be famous’ … Why? You don’t do anything.” As far as we’re concerned, calling out Hollywood on its bullshit is far from powerless. It’s a start to a conversation that needs to keep growing.
