Krysten Ritter Thinks Female Characters Can Absolutely Sell Toys
And we agree!
In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Marvel’s Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter discussed the impact of the show’s ability to discuss important subjects as well as its importance to the franchise as a whole–Colbert even cites it as the “first Marvel female television hero” series.
Eventually, the subject turned to the recent news that came out regarding Iron Man 3 and the decision to change the original villain from a female character to a male one–the justification being that a female villain wouldn’t sell as many toys. (Of course, I’m having a hard time remembering exactly the number of Aldritch Killian–Guy Pearce’s character–toys that wound up selling? Huh. Must not have been that many.)
“Girls can sell toys!” Ritter exclaims, after learning of the news firsthand from Colbert during the interview–and I definitely agree with her. I also wholeheartedly agree that there needs to be a Jessica Jones toy out there, ASAP. (I will also accept a toy in the form of a Funko Jessica Jones. Remind me when that’s supposed to be on the way again?)
