Nintendo Skips Virtual Reality With Very Real Legend of Zelda Escape Room Game
While everybody else is falling over themselves to make virtual reality the next big thing, Nintendo is taking things one step further. In partnership with SCRAP, they’re creating an escape room game inspired by the Legend of Zelda franchise, where you’ll be able to solve real-world puzzles with items and familiar faces—Gorons, Zora, and Kokiri—from the iconic game series.
Like a giant version of other escape rooms, you and a party of friends (6 players to a team) will be tasked with unlocking the secrets of a “huge area” in “Defenders of the Triforce,” all while attempting to save the world (and the Triforce) from Ganondorf. It pretty much sounds like a Zelda game come to life, which is why the partnership makes so much sense. The game will move around to different cities throughout the U.S., starting with San Francisco from January 31 – February 5.
From there, it will move on to Los Angeles (already sold out), Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Houston, Chicago, and New York. (Check the official site for the full list of dates in each city and details about buying tickets.) The game’s puzzles will be the same in every city, so you don’t have to worry that you’re missing out as it travels around the country—but don’t spoil it for anybody if you get there first! There’s nothing more gratifying than figuring out a Zelda puzzle for yourself and listening to that satisfying “secret” chime, after all.
