New Legends of the Hidden Temple Trailer Packed With Guards, Pendants of Life, and Silver Monkeys (Oh My)
It’s getting really hard to tell who this Legends of the Hidden Temple movie is for. I mean, on the one hand, there are plenty of fun-looking adventure movie tropes present for those who aren’t familiar with the source material. I imagine to those folks, this comes off as another adventure movie romp, and that’s fine. But the dang trailers thus far have been totally jam-packed with references to the game show, sometimes to the point where I have to wonder again: just who is this movie for?
Take, for example, this latest trailer. It makes solid use of the fade in/fade out trailer trope, cutting between dramatic establishing shots, suspenseful action, and prop or set piece references. The Shrine of the Silver Monkey particularly stands out simply because it’s featured so prominently in a shot that would otherwise be a stone door mysteriously opening by itself. One of the leads is wearing a Green Monkeys team shirt (which we saw in an earlier teaser), and in one of the shots, lets go of a strikingly yellow skating helmet similar to the ones they wore on the game show.
Heck, Kirk Fogg even shows up, smiling and nodding like a proud papa inside the temple. Olmec talks, and a riff on his trademark “the choices are yours and yours alone” line is the last thing we hear before it ends.
I think that there’s plenty of fun things present in the trailer to pique the interest of any passerby. It’s just that it’s becoming more and more obvious that this movie’s certainly made for those of us who know where everything’s coming from, it feels.
Anyway, this is all well and good and will hopefully tide us over until we can start a campaign to get an adult version of the game show. Or, you know, a puzzle/escape room based on it.
