LEGO Preparing to Take All of Everyone’s Money With Amiibo-like Video Game
Bricks on bricks on bricks.
You can build anything with LEGO! And that includes a machine to efficiently extract all of the world’s money. All of it. Say hello to LEGO’s new toy-based video game, LEGO Dimensions.
Much like The LEGO Movie leveraged LEGO’s partnerships with established fictional universes to create a juggernaut of animated film, LEGO Dimensions will make use of franchises like Batman, Lord of the Rings, The Wizard of Oz, and even Back to the Future (!!) for its build-’em-yourself toy sets. There’s a lot more where that came from, including additional LEGO Movie packs and probably eventual tie-ins to all the future LEGO movies and spinoffs.
Yes, that sound you hear is of all Nintendo’s Amiibo shaking in their little plastic boots. Here, let Joel McHale show you how it works:
When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO worlds, different characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings and The LEGO Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle bravely jump into the vortex and quickly find themselves fighting to save all of LEGO humanity.
Let creativity be the guide to a building and gaming adventure—journey through unexpected worlds and team-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Play with different minifigures from different worlds together in one LEGO videogame, and use each other’s vehicles and gadgets in a way never before possible. LEGO Bad Cop driving the DeLorean Time Machine… why not?! The LEGO Ninjago Masters of Spinjitsu fighting alongside Wonder Woman… yes, please! Get ready to break the rules, because the only rule with LEGO Dimensions is that there are no rules.
The game will arrive September 27 with a $99 starter set including the Toy Pad, bricks to build your own gateway, Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle minifigs, and the Batmobile brick set. It’ll be available for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and 4, and the Wii U.
