Why is it that cute animals become exponentially more adorable when they exhibit human behavior? I don’t have the science to explain the appeal behind penguins wearing sweaters or cats playing piano, but I do have these lemur selfies. I’m just going to leave them here.

The self portrait was taken by Bekily, a ten year old male ring-tailed lemur at ZSL London National Zoo. Explains lemur keeper Tegan,

We’re always taking quick pics of the animals we look after – as with workmates this cute, it’s hard to resist – but Bekily definitely wanted to get in on the action himself this time.

As I was snapping away, he grabbed the camera lens and pulled it towards his own face. It took him a few attempts but he got a great profile pic in the end.

I doubt we’ll be entering his pics into photography competitions anytime soon; however I think he did a pretty good job!

The images were posted on the Zoo’s website last week to raise awareness for their ZSL Animal Photography Prize, which will display the work of aspiring wildlife photographers and and distribute £10k worth of funding. The deadline to enter is April 1st, and judging from the casual coolness of Bekily’s shots, the competition is stiff.
