New Live Action Fullmetal Alchemist Trailer Brings Story’s Origin to Life, Looks Awesome
Edward and Alphonse Elric have already had their story, originally from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, retold twice in animated form, and now a live action movie is on the way.
If you don’t already know the story, this new trailer doesn’t really clear up a whole lot (you can see the first here), but I’d recommend that you go and watch one of the anime adaptations (or read the manga) right now to catch up, because they’re both a lot of fun—either will do, but the later Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood follows the story of the manga a lot more closely.
If you’re already familiar with the series, you’ll notice that this trailer depicts, in part, the event that sets the Elric brothers on their path: their attempt at bringing their mother back from the dead through “alchemy.” It doesn’t work out, resulting in Ed’s mechanical limbs, Al’s body becoming a suit of armor, and setting them on their journey to find the philosopher’s stone to set things right.
The film releases in Japan on December 1, 2017, and I will find a way to watch it, good or bad, in return for all the Fullmetal Alchemist feelings it will inevitably give me. Sounds like an equivalent trade.
