Academy award winner Lupita Nyong’o has proved her prowess as an actress on-screen in both live-action and animated films, as a stage actress on Broadway, as a filmmaker, and as an all-around amazing human being. But wait, there’s more! In a show of talent that probably shouldn’t be allowed in one mortal being, Nyong’o celebrated hitting 3 million followers on Instagram yesterday by channeling her alter ego “Troublemaker” and rapping about her inspiring list of achievements with verses from lyricist/actress Robyn Hood.
In a stylish black-and-white video, the beat to Nas’ “N.Y. State of Mind” accompanies the star who begins with the lines “Mexican born, Kenya running through my veins/Dark chocolate, plus I keep a sharp mane/Lancôme fresh-faced, looking tailor-made/Disney on the books, so you know I stay paid.” The Queen of Katwe actress also gives a shout-out to her co-star David Oyelowo, with the verse “Next stop Katwe, rocking out with David/ Don’t do critics, if you’re hating, please save it.”
Nyong’o also casually mentions her philanthropy work with WildAid (“Ambassador for elephants, trying to save the planet”) and fluency in English, Luo, Spanish, and Swahili (“Speak four languages, doing deals in Spanish/Hit ’em with my autograph, poof, I vanish”). Someone give Troublemaker a record deal!
