Lynda Carter Welcomes Gal Gadot to Sisterhood of Traveling Hotpants, I Mean, Role of Wonder Woman
Great Hera!
These days, when a new Batman or Superman actor is announced, your Ben Afflecks and Henry Cavils have a virtual rugby team (ok, maybe a basketball team… at least enough guys for an a capella group anyway) of other performances to draw from. Not so much for Wonder Woman, but at least reporters know exactly who to go to for opinions on the new blood.
And it’s Metro with the first interview of Lynda Carter after the announcement that Gal Gadot will be appearing as her in Superman vs Batman, and, as always, Carter knows exactly what she’s talking about when she talks about Wonder Woman.
“She’s not your average superhero,” she explained, when asked about Wonder Woman’s appeal. “It’s not so much about her super powers as it is about her ethic. I always thought of her as a figure who stands for what’s right. We all know what’s wrong with the world today, so maybe we need her right now.”
Metro: Gal Gadot’s just been cast as Wonder Woman in the forthcoming Superman film – will it be odd to see someone else playing her?
Carter: I don’t think so. It was a long time ago. I care more about the character continuing than holding on to my piece of it. I hope she has fun with it.
Carter also handled questions about Wonder Woman’s secondary status in the movie with grace, saying that it takes some of the pressure off Gadot, and could yet lead to something more for the character.
“I wish [Gadot] well,” Carter said, “I’m just glad [Wonder Woman’s] going to be out there again.”
Us too, Ms. Carter, us too.
