Start a Lovely, Lovely Day With an Incredible Look at Mad Max: Fury Road’s Practical Effects
Ride the pure joy of this video all the way to Valhalla.
Mad Max: Fury Road was, among the other great things about it, a masterpiece of a visual spectacle. That’s what makes this video of footage from the movie without digital effects so compelling; in an age where CGI is used as a fast, cheap solution to making anything possible on-screen, so much of Fury Road‘s visual insanity was actually pulled off in real life.
Really, that’s probably why the movie looked so great. It’s not that digital effects are bad, but they’re just one tool with which to add to the look of a movie—they’re not meant to be used so frequently as the entire toolbox—and George Miller clearly understands that. I hope other filmmakers are taking notes.
