Made By Women Incubator Program Hopes to Nurture and Develop Female Talent in TV and Film

Recommended Videos

One of the great things that comes out of increased discussion about the gender disparities and diversity issues in film and television are those who come forward with solutions to help do something about them. Indigenous Media, in conjunction with several “women in film” groups, has started an incubator for female talent called Made By Women.

Indigenous Media focuses on creating digital content for emerging platforms. They’ve partnered with Women In Film Los Angeles, the Producers Guild of America’s Women’s Impact Network, the Women’s Project Lab, the Alliance of Women Directors, The Kilroys, and The Lillys.

According to Made by Women‘s official press releas

Each organization will hand select three candidates, and Indigenous Media will narrow down this list of candidates and assign them to the mentors. Based on the writing samples, each mentor will select a final candidate.

The mentors will guide and encourage their candidates through the process of creating a pilot script for their series. Indigenous Media will then finance a short based on each mentor pairs’ pilot script, with the potential to produce and fund a full-length version.

And they have a pretty sweet group of mentors working with them, including Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland), Mimi Leder (The Leftovers), Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou), Betty Thomas (Private Parts) and Sarah Treem (The Affair) as well as some supportive dudes like Jon and Jake Avnet (Black Swan) and Rodrigo Garcia (Albert Nobbs), who also happen to be the founders of Indigenous Media.

If you are a female writer, director, playwright, or creator of some kind and would like the opportunity to take part in this program, you must first be a member of any of the partnering organizations named above. Go to their websites, check them out, and see if any of them are right for you! In addition to making you eligible for this program, those organizations are also great for networking and career-building opportunities, as well as providing resources for female creative-types. You can check out more info about Made by Women at their website.

Now, get out there and be brilliant!
