Seriously, Hollywood? Maggie Gyllenhaal Told “37 Is Too Old” to Play Love Interest of a 55-Year-Old Man
You're too old to do this for a movie, but when it comes to every other Hollywood romance...
Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight) was recently turned down for a role in a film because she was told she was too old to play the lover of a 55 year old man. At 37, well… yeah, it doesn’t make a damn lick of sense.
Gyllenhaal recently had an interview with TheWrap Magazine, where she commented on what she was told and how she reacted to it.
There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time. I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh.
It’s good she has a sense of humor about it, but keep in mind Hollywood has been copping a lot of shit lately for its sleazeball antics around women: unfair wage gaps, discrimination, straight up sexism, and general sleazebaggery.
Hollywood, seriously. Get your shit together.
