Mark Hamill Looks Great Wielding a Lightsaber, Definitely Not Too Old to Begin the Training
Stick it in your pointy ear, Yoda.
[Update] There’s now video from the photo shoot with a brief interview with Hamill.
We’ve been joking about it ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm and the rights to Star Wars along with it, but it’s finally here: Luke Skywalker and Mickey Mouse teaming up with lightsabers. Luckily, it’s just a promotional image from Star Wars Weekends at Disney World.
Mark Hamill took a break from Episode VII (already? Yoda was dead on with the whole “never his mind on where he was or what he was doing” bit, huh?) to stop by Star Wars Weekends and give us our first look at the new movie’s Luke Skywalker, kind of.
I was already sick of fans who were concerned that the original actors no longer looked the part for their characters, and seeing Mark Hamill holding a lightsaber again is just as reassuring and perfect as I expected. He’s definitely taking after Obi-Wan with his midi-chlorian-rich Jedi beard, and I can’t wait to finally see him in full costume.
Hamill is set to make his Star Wars Weekends debut tomorrow, and he spoke to a local paper about his preparation for the new movie and what he’s done to get back into Jedi shape. He told the Orlando Sentinel:
I’ve altered my diet. I’ve started working out. There’s that. But on the film itself: I toured the departments, I’ve looked at wardrobe, and I saw the creature shop. I went around and met all the cast people, saw the technicians working on some new things.
He didn’t tell them much, of course, but he assured everyone that the production isn’t toying with us on purpose. They just want to recapture the surprise elements that were easier to pull off before the Internet. It’s a long road of waiting, but who wants to choose the quick and easy path as Vader did, anyway? We all know where that leads.
