Squirrel Girl Found: New Warriors Announces Milana Vayntrub as the Unbeatable Heroine
The search is over. Marvel has found its Squirrel Girl. Milana Vayntrub, known for her work on This Is Us, Silicon Valley, Other Space, and as the “AT&T Girl” Lily Adams in all those AT&T commercials, will be playing Squirrel Girl in Marvel/Freeform’s upcoming New Warriors series. It’s a pretty solid casting, we have to say, and we’re frankly just excited at the prospect of a Squirrel Girl popping up on television. Like, hell yes, we want an unbeatable superheroine who also talks to squirrels.
For those who don’t know, New Warriors is a Marvel series headed to the somewhat young adult-centric network, Freeform, along with Cloak and Dagger, another new Marvel series. It will also feature some lesser-known (according to most mainstream tastes, at least) Marvel heroes, brought to life by a pretty superb cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, these character and actor pairings include Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher; Calum Worthy as Speedball; Matthew Moy as Microbe and Kate Comer as Debrii. If you want to check out the spot-on descriptions of these characters, you should totally head over to The Hollywood Reporter’s full exclusive announcement.
It’s certainly noteworthy that many, many fans (myself included) campaigned to have Shannon Purser (Stranger Things, Riverdale, Wish Upon) play the bushy-tailed superheroine. There’s certainly a bit of disappointment knowing that Purser didn’t get the role, but I remain somewhat cautiously optimistic about Vayntrub’s casting. She has obviously proven that she’s got some solid comedy chops, and Squirrel Girl is definitely a character that requires that kind of comedic touch.

See what I mean?
Alongside Vayntrub’s announcement is the revelation that Derek Theler will be playing Mister Immortal, the co-lead alongside Vayntrub’s Squirrel Girl.
You stoked yet?
