Possibly Too-Good-To-Be-True Rumor of the Day: Marvel Putting Together A Ton Of New TV Shows

DO WANT

Marvel might be putting together four new TV shows, you say? And a miniseries? For a total of 60 new episodes? Man, I’m not sure what show I want them to—*coughAgentCartercough*

This is the rumor-iest of rumors: It comes from Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, who says no one at Marvel Studios will breathe a word of it lest Disney come along and take their firstborn child. It could be that Marvel’s planning something so awesome that utmost secrecy is required. Or it could be nothing at all. Says Andreeva:

“I hear that Marvel is quietly putting together a package of four drama series and a miniseries — a total of some 60 episodes — that would be taken out to the VOD and cable space, with Netflix, Amazon and WGN America rumored as potential candidates. Feelers had been sent out, and I hear there’s already interest from digital platforms and traditional cable networks in the package, which I hear is in very early stages with very little talent attached. Reps for Marvel refused any comment.”

Rumor though this may be, it does make sense. Agents of SHIELD is doing well in the ratings, and it doesn’t exactly take a leap of imagination to say that Disney/Marvel will want to do another show. And this rumor dovetails nicely with the one that Marvel is “working on the concept for a potential TV series” about Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell‘s up for it, nudge nudge Marvel). As for planning multiple shows at once, well, that is Marvel’s modus operandi when it comes to movies. Going to Netflix or Amazon would take the shows out of the Disney family, but Disney and  Netflix have made deals before.

So, basically, though the numbers of shows and episodes being worked on might be off here, it’s completely with in the realm of possibility that the general gist of this story—Marvel is working on multiple shows for streaming platforms—is true. After all, to paraphrase Zoolander, streaming-only shows are so hot right now.

Let’s engage in a bit of wish fulfillment and say, yes, this is true, Marvel Studios is doing four shows and one miniseries. What do you want them to be? Which characters should get their due on the small screen, and who should hold out for a movie? And… go!
