Marvel Thankfully Appears to Be Speeding Up Netflix Show Production

Now about speeding up that mid-season drag ...

Marvel’s four Netflix shows are set to come together the way they were always intended later this month when Defenders debuts, but each individual show still has more story to tell afterwards, with second seasons for everyone and a third for Daredevil. The man without fear is the only one who’s even gotten a second season so far, with an excruciating wait for others, but things appear to be speeding up.

According to a Deadline report about Marvel and Netflix setting a production commitment record for New York City, the home of all these heroes, all those upcoming seasons are set to finish or nearly finish shooting by the end of 2017. That reportedly includes 23 episodes in total (not each) for Daredevil and Iron Fist‘s upcoming seasons, with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage‘s 26 total episodes already underway. That’s a lot of Marvel TV all ready to go in the relatively near future, in addition to the Punisher show that’s on the way on an unspecified date—supposedly late 2017.

That’s five seasons of TV that we have to expect to debut before the end of 2018. That’s a big change from the original release schedule of one per year, which has to be a result of the success the shows have seen. What it means for the future, though, is less certain. Fans definitely have enough of an appetite to devour these shows in that kind of succession, but those upcoming seasons are also all we know about at the moment, and they’re coming up on the finish line relatively soon.

Will even more characters get introduced, like the Punisher, to spawn even more solo shows, or are we looking at a few more seasons of each of these first? We’re very eager to see where Jessica Jones and Luke Cage go in their second seasons, and there seems to be plenty of room to grow from here, but we also wouldn’t mind some new additions—especially if an accelerated release schedule means we still wouldn’t have to wait so long for each of them.

Really, there’s nothing but possibilities, and we can’t wait to see what this corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe does from here.
