Get in Loser, We’re Going Singing: Tina Fey Developing Mean Girls Musical
it's time to play the music
Don’t break out the boombox with “Jingle Bell Rock” queued up on CD that you keep at all times for emergencies just yet. But you might want to start imagining how the show-stopping opener “Regina George is Flawless” will go. Tina Fey is trying to get a Mean Girls musical made.
The comedian told E! Online while crossing the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards this weekend, in the midst of a typical red carpet conversation that manages to be merely awkward, but not painfully awkward. When asked about the possibility of a Mean Girls musical, she answered:
Maybe! We want to. I would love to. I’m trying to develop it with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock and I think Paramount’s onboard.
Not a bad prognosis. Surely if Legally Blonde can get a sequel and a musical, Mean Girls can get one of those two. Fey also confirmed that she was very much aware of and delighted by a recent episode of American Idol where Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey competitively flashed their knowledge of her movie. She said she’d absolutely let Mariah Carey play Amy Poehler‘s “cool mom” character.
Your move Paramount. This is your chance to make fetch happen.
Where “fetch” is “a Mean Girls musical.”
