Available Soon: Bizarre Shoe That Plays Clips of Lars Ulrich Speaking

Recommended Videos

Noticing the obvious lack of strange doodads on the market, Metallica has announced a merchandising deal with Vans that will see three different releases of varying oddity. The first and last will be rather straightforward Metallica-branded shoes. It’s the middle release that promises to be truly weird. Dubbed “Passion Projects,” the line will feature designs from the band, including a shoe that plays clips of Lars Ulrich speaking with each step.

Consequence of Sound explains:

The shoes are the first in an upcoming three-tier release schedule. In January 2013, Vans will unveil the “Passion Projects” line, featuring designs from each band member (including Lars Ulrich’s shoe that plays clips of him speaking with each step). Then, in March, Vans and Metallica will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Kill ‘Em All with artwork emblazoned on Vans’ Classic Slip-On and the Sk8-Hi shoes.

We still have a few months to prepare for the inevitable squealing of multiple pairs of these things going off at once. Even worse, imagine multiple people wearing them in a confined space like the subway. Is the demand for novelty sneakers, and Lars Ulrich, really that high? Vans seems to think so.
