Once Upon a Time‘s Ruby Grabs the Lead Role in Another Show
The Boob Tube
All due congratulations to Meghan Ory, but… Ruby! Don’t leave!
Deadine reports that Ory has been cast as the lead in CBS’s drama pilot Intelligence, where she’ll be joined by Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost), Marg Helgenberger (CSI), and P.J. Byrne (Bolin in The Legend of Korra).
Ory will play Riley O’Neil, an ex-Secret Service agent tasked with protecting Gabriel (Holloway), who is “the nation’s top intelligence asset” because he has a computer chip in his head that allows him to “access the entire electromagnetic spectrum.”
In the words of the great Matthew McConaughey, alright alright alright. Sounds… potentially promising. I like the idea of the female lead protecting the male lead instead of the other way around. I just hope the writers avoid the same old-same old when it comes to the “will they or won’t they” subplot that you just know is going to be there.
But what does Ory’s casting mean for Ruby? Though Intelligence will air on CBS it’s produced by ABC Studios, like Once Upon a Time, “which allowed the flexibility,” says Deadline. And Ruby hasn’t been around much this season anyway. So it’s possible that she could keep her (small) role as Intelligence makes its way through the pilot stage.
But if it gets picked up? That’s a likely goodbye to Ruby, either by disappearing into the ether of Storybrooke à la the Mad Hatter or by being killed off.
If it comes to it I’ll be sad to see Ory leave Once. She hasn’t had a lot to do this season, but she’s a good character. But I’m also sad that Ory playing a flashback version of Derek’s sister Laura on Teen Wolf probably won’t happen now that she’ll be so busy. Not that it had much of a shot of happening anyway, but… darnit, it would have been perfect! Let me have my dreamcasting!
