Melissa Benoist Explains to Colbert Why Supergirl Is Feminist and Completely Nails It
Super.
Stephen Colbert may have a ways to go before he catches up to Jimmy Fallon in Late Night show popularity, but he’s already the nerd king of their time slot. So, of course he’d have Supergirl‘s Melissa Benoist on to talk about the show following its premiere, and when the topic turns to the show’s feminism, she’s got exactly the right words.
There’s nothing groundbreaking here, but when so much of society seems incapable of understanding the basic meaning of the word feminism, it’s great to hear someone bluntly point out that the real feminism of something is in being “for everyone.” It’s also worth pointing out how great it is to hear that message receive cheers and applause from the audience of one of the biggest talk shows on television.
If Supergirl is going to be a feminist role model, she’s off to a solid start.
