MGM Money Problems, Delays on Hobbit Extended

Recommended Videos

MGM has been staving off bankruptcy and looking for a buyer for going on a year now, and the process has just been extended.  The studio’s new deadline to either pay off its creditors or go bankrupt is September 15th.

Why is this relevant to our interests?  Well, because until MGM gets its act together, it’s very unlikely that The Hobbit or the next James Bond movie will see production.

From ScreenRant:

The news as of late (if you’ve been following) seems to indicate that the statuses of both The Hobbit and Bond 23 (the next film) could be in jeopardy; actors and directors circling both projects could ultimately walk if production doesn’t begin soon. So if you’re worried about Daniel Craig passing on Bond or Ian McKellen dropping out of The Hobbit, you can officially start to panic (just slightly though).

The good news is that Spyglass Entertainment and Lions Gate Entertainment are both interested in the studio and its assets.  Hopefully a resolution will arrive quickly; we’ve already lost my best-case-scenario director for The Hobbit, lets not lose the actors who made LotR so incredible as well.
