MGM Too Poor to Make Another James Bond Film

Recommended Videos

The Mirror reports that MGM Studios, as part of its continuing money struggles as it tries to find another studio to buy it, has axed plans and pre-production for the 23rd James Bond film.

A glum insider said: “Members of the production crew have been told the Bond film has been canned.

“There is a lot of bad feeling as a lot of time, money and hard work has already gone into this.”

Indeed, the movie already had Sam Mendes lined up to direct and Daniel Craig to star.

This doesn’t mean that there will never be another Bond movie, but simply that there are no current plans for one.  Casino Royale and even Quantum of Solace went big at the box office, it seems inevitable that whoever picks up MGM’s debt will want to leverage the brand.

The Bond franchise still has 5 years to go before it sets a new record for not having a Bond movie.  The current biggest gap is between 1989’s License to Kill and 1995’s GoldenEye.  In the meantime, well…

Paramount is looking for a Hulk, Mr. Craig.
