Michael Keaton Is Clearly as Excited as We Are About His Batman Return
I will gladly admit to loving Michael Keaton’s Batman maybe most of all—the challenger currently being that of Robert Pattinson in The Batman. There was something about the world that Tim Burton built with Keaton that felt like the perfect place for the Dark Knight to exist, and Keaton showed the balance between Bruce Wayne and Batman perfectly. It has been thirty years since we’ve seen Keaton back in the cowl but that will soon change.
News broke that Keaton would be heading back to Gotham back in 2021, alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash. While we don’t know much about the film, it did set off a return for Keaton in the upcoming HBO Max Batgirl movie, as well, which stars Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon. So, we’re going to be getting quite a bit of Keaton back as the Bat for all the time we’ve missed these last 30 years, and it seems as if Michael Keaton is just as excited as we are.
Keaton took to Instagram to share an image of himself in the Batman suit. Well … sort of.
Keaton shared a picture of his shadow in the Batsuit, and we all, promptly, yelled about it because we’re clearly excited to have him back, but the amount of times Keaton has talked about it or posted his excitement makes it seem like Keaton is also so happy to be back in the cowl. Now, if only they would let him post a selfie in the cowl …
The future of Keaton’s Batman
What we know about The Flash is that it’s going to be a take on Flashpoint, a famous multiversal storyline for Barry Allen, and the inclusion of two different Batmen would honestly make sense. But his inclusion in Batgirl is a fascinating, especially since J.K. Simmons is playing Commissioner Gordon in the film, reprising his role from past DC movies.
Does that mean that The Flash will merge these universes? Is Keaton bringing us a different version of his take on Bruce? We’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out, but I just personally love how excited Michael Keaton seems to be about it all.
The reality of it is that this is definitely for fans. They’re bringing him back to appease to us, and frankly, I’m fine with it. And clearly, so is Michael Keaton.
