FOX’s Minority Report Does Right By Changing the Name of a Certain Football Team
Well played, show. Well played.
I was originally indifferent to the upcoming FOX television adaptation of Minority Report, which is set fifteen years after Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of the Phillp K. Dick story. However, they just announced something that earned them some major brownie points with me.
In addition to having a woman of color (Meagan Good) as one of the leads, Minority Report also gives us reason to hope for the future of how we deal with race in America. For example, they’ve changed the name of Washington D.C’s NFL team to the Washington Red Clouds, naming it after the famous Lakota Chief, rather than letting it sit with the racist name it has currently. And look at that! That new name wouldn’t even require them to change their logo, or anything! See how easy a fix that is?
Executive Producers Darryl Frank and Kevin Falls promise many more changes like this, as well as an improved public transportation system and changes to national monuments.
2065, when the series is set, is looking like it’s gonna be a great year! Minority Report premieres on September 21st – the same night as the Gotham S2 premiere.
