Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Final Hamilton Bow Perfectly Set to West Wing Theme
Lin-Manuel Miranda took his final Hamilton curtain call to a massive standing ovation and to the theme song of one of his most favorite shows, The West Wing. Miranda, who refers to himself as a West Wing acolyte, took his traditional bows with the cast, which you can see via the archived Facebook livestream above. With each subsequent wave of bows, the group stepped back to highlight the other cast members who are also leaving the show: Leslie Odom, Jr. and Phillipa Soo.
Eventually the line thinned down to Miranda himself, and it’s at that point the West Wing music starts to play. Miranda instantly recognized the song and you can just see the big ol’ smile on his face and the face of his fellow cast members who seemed to have planned it as a surprise for him. He reluctantly took a bit of a solo bow, not wanting to leave his fellow cast members behind, but ultimately, he ended up getting pushed back to the front to take his bow.
Even just from the video, one can tell that the excitement and love in the room is quite palpable. It seems to spill out in waves, and the theme song just sets a capstone on what was surely a wonderful night. Miranda’s cited The West Wing as inspiration for Hamilton, at least in part; knowing that, it’s hard to imagine a better goodbye to the man who stood at the center of it all.
