Dwayne Johnson tweeted a fantastic look at the movie poster for Disney’s upcoming animated feature, Moana. It shows his character, demi-god Maui, sailing on some wavy seas alongside Disney’s newest princess, Moana Waialiki. The colors are rich and absolutely striking, in keeping with the aesthetic that’s been all over the preview materials we’ve been shown so far. Speaking of more preview materials, Johnson’s tweet also teased that he would share the very first teaser trailer for this movie on this coming Sunday, June 12th. You bet we’ll be staying tuned.
All said, we’ve been pretty stoked about Moana for a lot of different reasons. First of all, getting Johnson to play the demi-god Maui? Hell yeah. Second, setting it in the South Pacific? Damn straight. But you know what’s more exciting than both of those and everything else? They created and developed a Polynesian Disney princess and cast an actual Hawaiian girl to voice her: Auli’i Cravalho! Moana will be Cravalho’s big screen premiere, and “excited” is just such an understatement when it comes to how we feel about this movie.
Even just looking at the poster gets me all kinds of hopeful about how this movie is going to turn out. It is for sure going to be beautiful in that Disney way.
