Man Surrenders Home Office to New Baby, Constructs Mobile One From IKEA Parts
Having a child is an event that can end up starting a series of compromises. After all, you’ve got to make room in your life for another human that’s quite a bit smaller and relies on others for everything. Ian, from Los Angeles, even had to give up his home office to accommodate the new screaming bundle of joy in his life. This was apparently seen as a challenge, because Ian went on to create an impressive mobile home office out of IKEA bits and pieces.
IKEA Hackers has Ian’s description of the project:
I had to surrender my home office to make room for my new baby boy ;) I took an Ikea stainless steel kitchen “work table”, some Ikea computer tower desk trays, two steel tabletops, and two grated steel shelves to make an “office” that I could pack away into a closet.
The ingenuity and determination to both have his cake and eat it too deserves applause if nothing else. Though there’s currently no blueprints available for this work of art, the general IKEA bits involved are pretty obvious. It’s the computers and gadgetry that’d be harder to mimic.
