Sci-Fi Thriller Morgan Casts Kate Mara as Its Star

But will she terminate, or be terminated?

In sci-fi movie news, it seems we’ll have another member of the Scott family to deal with. Ridley Scott’s son, Luke Scott, is making his feature film directorial debut with sci-fi thriller Morgan, written by Seth Owen and, as was announced today, starring House of Cards and Fantastic Four alum Kate Mara.

Morgan hasn’t even finished casting yet, and there’s already a huge amount of buzz around it. In addition to it being the directorial debut of another Scott, the script also had the honor of being on the 2014 Black List of Unproduced Screenplays, which is a pretty big deal for a screenwriter, as it’s an industry-voted list of excellent but not-yet-produced screenplays being circulated around Hollywood. According to the Black List, the synopsis is: “A corporate risk management consultant is summoned to a remote research lab to determine whether or not to terminate an at-risk artificial being.”

Sounds like it could be pretty rad. What isn’t clear is whom Mara will be playing. Will she be playing the consultant? Or will she be playing the A.I. I’m not sure which I’d prefer. It depends on who the actual lead is. If it’s the consultant’s story, having a woman in that role would be amazing. However, if the story is actually about the A.I, I hope that’s the role Mara’s playing. Point being, it’s nice to see an original sci-fi story coming out with a female lead.

What gives me more hope is that Anya Taylo-Joy (The Witch) is also in talks to star. Dare I hope for a sci-fi film with TWO female leads? The consultant AND the A.I?! *gasp* One can dream…
