Mortal Kombat (the Movies) Finally Gets the Honest Trailer Fatality It Deserves

Recommended Videos

Of course Mortal Kombat would get its own Honest Trailer. With Assassin’s Creed trying to repair the damage of the terrible video game movie adaptations that came before, it’s the perfect time to look back at one of the most notorious of the bunch. This incredibly flawed film featured subpar special effects, homemade looking costumes, a questionable plot, unnecessary dialogue and unbelievably bad acting but I’ll be damned if that theme song wasn’t one of the best things to come out of the ’90s. Plus, it was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson who also brought Resident Evil to the big screen. Thanks?

I haven’t seen this film or its sequel since I was a kid, and I remember it being a lot better than this. I guess I was too young to notice the blatant objectification of Sonya Blade’s character, which Screen Junkies accurately points out in this six-minute video. I also forgot about the darn giant hamster wheels which, by golly, why would you remind me? Not enough cringe in my body to properly express how horrible it is to see that again.

Still, this film is probably a great candidate for a drinking game. Counting the number of times they scream “MORTAL KOMBAAAAT” alone would be worth giving it a shot. (See what I did there? … I’m so sorry.) If you’re looking for a good laugh—honestly, we could all use one right about now—then check out the above video. And let me know what are you favorite/least favorite moments are for both films!
