When Ms. Marvel dropped on Disney+, with it came a mid-credit scene that requires some explanation—unless you also care about Agent Cleary from Spider-Man: No Way Home, and then no explanation needed. Played by Arian Moayed, the character first appeared as an agent from the United States Department of Damage Control and was there to try to sort through what was happening with Peter Parker in the aftermath of Mysterio.

Now, with Kamala Khan, it seems as if his agency is working to try to figure out what new heroes (or threats) they have to deal with before things get out of hand. What we see in the mid-credits scene is the Department of Damage Control getting footage from Avengers Con and talking about this new hero they have to find, and it sets up a pretty clear point moving forward: Kamala is going to have to deal with Agent Cleary.

In the past, the Avengers had to answer to people like General Ross, but it seems as if Tony Stark constantly going over his head forced the government’s hand, and now the Department of Damage Control is more in charge. In fact, Marvel was once working on a TV show about the department, which gets its name right from Marvel comics, but that has failed to materialize, with the organization instead being threaded through Marvel’s onscreen universe in the form we’re seeing it here.

What does this mean for Kamala?

For the future of Kamala as a character, it might just simply mean that she’s going to have to answer to someone before she gets to meet any of her heroes—sspecially if Agent Cleary finds her first. But also, they clearly have no idea who she is and just have the footage from the con to go on. So, in theory, Kamala could avoid them for quite a while because, after Spider-Man: No Way Home, we know that they are not the best at their job.

Until we know more, the scene just sets up moves for Kamala, and we know, as the audience, who is going to be a thorn in her side because Agent Cleary is not going to give up until he figures out what Kamala Khan’s deal is, and that’s not going to be a good thing.
