Nas Announces a New Ghostbusters-Inspired Clothing Line
Rapper Nas has just announced plans to launch a clothing line inspired by the Ghostbusters franchise; his clothing company HSTRY went to the Sony Pictures’ lot to do a photo shoot featuring the new line of clothes. You can get a glimpse of the designs in the video above, which also includes Nas describing his childhood experience seeing the first Ghostbusters in 1984.
According to Hypebeast, the clothing line will include “long and short sleeved tees, sweatshirts, jackets, hats and more, all with respective hints towards the iconic movie franchise.” In the video interview, Nas emphasizes the ethos of his company: “It’s something that we just started, just as a hobby, just as something to do, just as something fun to do. We didn’t think much about the fashion industry. We don’t care.”
After describing his own fandom surrounding the original Ghostbusters (“It just took us on a ride! That movie is great!”), Nas went on to admit that he does find it unusual that musical artists sometimes end up in the fashion industry: “These days I’m definitely more business-minded, because it’s that way now. Things change—the music industry’s gone through a drastic change on every level, every aspect of it, where there’s new interesting ways to do things.”
Even if Nas seems somewhat hesitant, at least during that part of the interview, I think he and his team have come up with some very cool twists on the original Ghostbusters logo, while also taking some clear inspirations from 1980s fashion. It’s a blend of old and new aesthetics—which, as we all hope, is what the new movie will do, too!
