NASA Unveils Instagram Account That’s Already Full of All Kinds Of Awesome
Their pics are so cool, they don't even need the filter.
Yesterday NASA hopped on the bandwagon and announced their official Instagram account. In case you forgot, last night NASA also launched the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) at 11:27 pm our of their center in Virginia. So yeah, there’s some pretty bitchin’ pics up already.
Aw man, look at that thing!
In the press release that was announced yesterday, the space agency had this to say about their latest foray into social media:
Instagram complements NASA’s strong social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube, Flickr, Foursquare, Reddit and other sites. All are aimed at engaging and inspiring the public with NASA’s unique content. The agency’s primary Twitter account, @NASA, has almost 5 million followers — more than any other federal agency. NASA’s innovative use of social media is recognized as one of the best in federal government.
They’ve already got over 44,000 followers and they’e only been on Instagram for a little more than 24 hours, so there’s definitely something to be said for their social media team — specifically that they’re reallly super good at their jobs.
In addition to official NASA instagram (which, of course, can be found under the username nasa), there is now also an instagram for the NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center and the Ames Research Center. You can also find a list of all the social media accounts NASA uses on this handy website right here.
And okay, we need one more picture of the LADEE rocket:
SO COOL.

- Did you guys see the rocket launch? It was pretty great
- We’ll have to add the LADEE probe to next month’s space map, huh?
- But for real — this isn’t a caterpillar, NASA
