Things We Saw Today: Netflix’s Trippy Trailer for Maniac is Giving Us Legion Feels
Plus Final Fantasy, Ryan Reynolds, and more!
The first teaser for Jonah Hill and Emma Stone’s new Netflix series Maniac has been released, and it’s already garnering comparisons to FX’s psychedelic superhero show Legion. It’s easy to see why: both series concern the experimental treatment of psych patients with the same trippy flourishes that suggest that something isn’t quite right with their diagnosis or their treatment.
Created by Patrick Somerville (The Leftovers) and directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective), the series (adapted from a Norwegian show) centers on two strangers taking part in an experimental drug trial that claims to solve all their problems, physically, mentally and emotionally. Justin Theroux also stars as the mysterious doctor leading the trial. The teaser doesn’t give us a lot to go on, but considering the talent involved, we’ll definitely be checking it out.
