Everything Coming to Netflix in October (But Mostly Stranger Things)

Recommended Videos

Hard to believe that September’s already winding down and we’re headed towards the height of fall—I’m anticipating pumpkin beer, cozy scarves, Halloween madness, and maybe picking an apple or two before going to the corn maze. But when we’re inside, here’s the new offerings Netflix will have to keep you entertained.

While there’s plenty of titles that I expect y’all are into—like season 4 of Voltron: Legendary Defender, which drops on October 13th, plus a ton of horror and slasher flicks for the Halloween holiday season—most of the media’s attention will be firmly fixed on Stranger Things‘ season 2 debut on October 27th.

This savvy choice is the Friday before Halloween, which means you can spend that spooky weekend binging the show. (The 27th, as Polygon notes, is also a huge day this year for new videogame and movie releases). Stranger Things Halloween watch parties are going to be a thing.

I have to admit that my overwhelming feeling where Stranger Things v.2.0 is concerned is cautious curiosity. I watched the first season in one night and enjoyed it—like many, I was tickled by the ’80s nostalgia and the freaky mystery—but I didn’t love Stranger Things with the obsessive adoration so many of my fellow critics and fans seemed to lavish on it.

I often wonder how much they truly adored the plot, dialogue, and characters and how much they were swept away and charmed by images of their own childhood and references to other beloved properties.

Stranger Things was just fine, but I’ll be waiting to see whether the creatives can pull off a compelling second go-round or whether we’ll see a sophomore slump here.

If I’m being honest, the thing I’m most excited to spot on Netflix’s October list is Donnie Darko, which used to be one of my favorite movies but I haven’t seen in years. I’d love to see if it still stands the test of time.
