New Clips from American Gods Show How Beautiful and Weird It Will Be
Hello and happy weekend, my American Gods friends! I know many of you are as psyched as I am for this show, and Starz just saved us from the doldrums of Friday afternoon with two delicious extended clips.
First up, there’s a production video with creatives like author Neil Gaiman, actors Ricky Whittle and Bruce Langley, plus co-creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. This league of extraordinary gentlemen introduces the basic story and thrust of the show. But what’s especially awesome about the clip, “A Storm is Coming,” is that we get to see a loooot of the characters in the flesh, including some that have not yet been introduced in the four episodes I’ve seen so far.
If you have friends who say “What’s American Gods?” or you’re trying to convince someone in your household to watch the show with you when it debuts, show ’em this.
Next up, we have the full scene in prison between Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle, who I called “a heroic statue of the perfect man”) and Low Key Lyesmith (Jonathan Tucker)—a flashback that Shadow has that reveals maybe his jailbird pal was a little bit more than meets the eye.
My buddies, my pals, I really cannot tell you how thrilled I am about this show and how excited (and relieved) I was that the third and fourth episodes were just as good—if not better—than the first ones. The worst part about American Gods is the waiting game until April 30th, and wishing it were coming out all at once so that I could binge on this world and nothing else.
But Starz isn’t Netflix, and they’re clearly taking a lot of time and care with this baby. Even though I might want the whole season in one go, I think the week-by-week build is going to work really well and also torment us, since the episodes tend to end on a cliffhanging “OH MY GOD REALLY?” note.
Do you have burning questions about American Gods? Lay ’em on me. I’m supposed to head to a junket with some of the actors and creators next week. I shall be your conduit. I am here for all of this.
