A Lady Writing Conan, and Other Screenwriting Tidbits

Meanwhile...

Writers! They do things in Hollywood. I just can’t remember what…

But I do know that Andrea Berloff has been tapped to write the possible return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Conan franchise.

Berloff’s credits include adapting the French action film Sleepless Night, and New Line’s Straight Outta Compton. If brought to production, the film would, appropriately for its choice of leading man, focus on a middle-aged Conan’s efforts to retain his barbarian throne. From Deadline:

The franchise got a fresh start last October, when Universal and Schwarzenegger got involved, largely because of the passion of Chris Morgan, the scribe/producer who has minted money at the studio writing Fast & The Furious films. He was the one who decided to draw a parallel right back to the original raw, violent Conan films, which ended with the image of the barbarian king sitting atop his throne. The new film is about his efforts to stay there and the final cycle of a life spent obliterating anyone who got in his way.

We wish Ms. Berloff well with the project.

Meanwhile, in the parts of the Marvel universe that are not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fantastic Four reboot is getting a rewrite, from Simon Kinberg, a co-writer of X-Men: First Class. He’ll be the fifth writer to tackle the script, and according to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, will be making significant changes.

And in unsurprising (but good, as long as you enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man) news, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, the trio behind The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, have been enticed back to pen the third film in the franchise. If you didn’t like The Amazing Spider-Man, you might want to sit this one out.

Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
