BBC Reveals Details on the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special
It Goes Ding When There's Stuff
Steven Moffat himself has stopped off in our time period to tell us about the future. Specifically, he dropped some hints about the setting of this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, and the guest stars who will be appearing within.
If you want absolutely no spoilers at all about the episode I’ll just say this to whet the appetite of anyone who is unsure: the episode will be riffing off the work of the second-best known Inkling. The rest is below.
From the Daily Star:
The special sees the Time Lord crash land in war-torn England. Posing as the caretaker of a creepy old house in Dorset he embarks on a magical mystery adventure with Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril.
The three have been evacuated from London as the capital comes under attack during World War Two.
And there’s plenty of surprises as the Doctor leads them into a new world.
In other words, along with Moffat-promised chases through a wintry forest and an ice-based villain, we’re getting that Doctor Who/The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe crossover that we didn’t realize made so much sense until just right now. Wardrobes aren’t the only tall, rectangular, paneled, wooden objects that can transport people to other worlds, you know. The episode will also be utilizing the talents of Claire Skinner (Bridget Jones’ Diary, Outnumbered), Bill Bailey (Hot Fuzz, QI), Alexander Armstrong (Pointless, The Sarah Jane Adventures), and Arabella Weir, who has “played an alternate female version of the Doctor in the Big Finish play Exile.”
I just thought I’d, uh, throw that last bit on the end for your edification.
