New Dungeons & Dragons Film Announced! Let’s Pretend That Other D&D Movie Never Happened.
You know. The Jeremy Irons one?
Warner Brothers and Hasbro’s announcement that a new Dungeons & Dragons film will come to the silver screen seems to be missing an important piece of information: didn’t we already try that 15 years ago? Jeremy Irons starred in a regrettable, so-bad-it’s-amazing film adaptation of the tabletop favorite in 2000, and it’s worth revisiting the film in full, because somehow the entire thing is on YouTube. (Why hasn’t anybody taken this down? Does no one want to admit to owning the rights to it?)
The original director and producer of that 2000 film, Courtney Solomon, is also a producer on the upcoming project, alongside several others. She had this to say about the new film:
We are thrilled that this beloved property can finally make its way to the big screen after 20 years, and that it can be realized by Warner Bros., which has been responsible for the biggest fantasy franchises over the past two decades.
20 years? What about the film that you made a mere 15 years ago? This makes me a bit sad, actually. Even if Solomon wants to forget about her other movie, I’m not sure I want to. Let’s all give this old gem a re-watch … perhaps with the aid of a flagon of mead (or two … or three).
