New Ghostbusters Trailer Features Mass Hysteria

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel slimed.

Correction: That is not actually a gritty Stay Puft Man at the end of the trailer, as this article originally stated, but Rowan, one of the movie’s big bads. I maintain that Rowan really, really looks like a gritty Stay Puft Man.

A new Ghostbusters trailer is here, which I say with some trepidation, since the trailers for this movie have become so contentious. But it’s here, and it’s goofy, and I’m in for it.

This latest trailer features not only a lot more actual ghosts and ghouls than we’ve seen from previous ones (including a flaming Stay Puft Marshmallow Man), but also a look at Cecily Strong’s role and what happens when Kevin the Receptionist gets a little too confident in his ‘busting abilities.

There were definitely a few points where I laughed aloud at this trailer (Kristen Wiig having hysterics was one of them), and this was the first time I’ve felt excited as a New Yorker for the way the city might be depictedsomething about seeing the Empire State Building covered in ghosts is kind of enthralling. I know the majority of the movie was filmed in Boston, but still.

Ghostbusters comes out July 15th and stars Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth as a “Ken doll with the insides scooped out.”
