The New Trailer for The Last Jedi Is Here and I Have Way Too Many Emotions
It’s here. It’s here. It’s here. It’s here.
Wow, my friends. Wow. If the first Last Jedi trailer teased us with mere bites, this trailer is a whole damned banquet—albeit a confusing one. (What to eat first? Which food is not what it seems? Which is actually poison? Which is a delicious dish?)
We see so much that it’s hard to even take it all in, and I think we’re meant to take Luke’s line to Leia to heart—”This is not going to go the way you think.” So all of the suggested plot twists the trailer raises might just be red herrings. I hope.
Is Rey really going to go to Kylo Ren for help in the end? I can’t deal with that, so I’m going to assume she lightsaber stabs him immediately thereafter. However, what we are seeing repeated quite a lot here is that Luke may not be the mentor that Rey needs; he seems afraid of her raw power (considering what happened with his nephew Ben Solo a.k.a. Kylo Ren) and he doesn’t appear all that keen to help her out. (I mean, since he was hiding from the rest of the galaxy on a remote island, we shouldn’t be surprised, but still.) Oh, Luke. What if Yoda had just left you on Dagobah to rot?
Other things that made my adrenaline spike: Finn fighting Phasma! Finn looking like he’s captured!! Finn’s dashing boyfriend Poe talking about how to bring down the First Order! Leia looking commanding and resolved and ripping my heart out because I miss Carrie Fisher every day. Chewie’s yell being echoed by our new favorite Porg. Porgs!!!
This is pretty much what my face is doing right now.
(h/t Vivian Kane for the Porg .gif; the entire Mary Sue staff is freaking out at the moment.)
While we seek composure, tell us what stood out for you, what you’re thinking, and what your emotions are doing. We’re also taking bets on how quickly Rey messes up Kylo Ren after fooling him into working with her. (Right? Right?????)
