New Trailer for Final Season of the Titus Show … I Mean Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Unbreakable she's alive damn it
One of Netflix’s crown jewels is coming back at the end of this month. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is going to be returning May 30th to Netflix, and from the looks of this trailer, it seems to be more of the same in both the good ways and the bad ways.
I find a lot of the show funny. I think Kimmy herself is a quite funny character and I enjoy the way she plays off of others, especially Xan and Titus. The last season did some really good work touching on Kimmy trying to find her way in the workforce after not getting an education past middle school, while at the same time addressing the privilege that comes with her having been able to get into Columbia with relative ease because of her quirky whiteness.
Titus Andromedon will always be a delight and even though I pray to Hera every season that they will just stop with the whole Jacqueline is a Native American woman concept, I do like Jacqueline overall.
That being said, this is a Tina Fey production (she co-created the show and co-executive produces), and Fey has a mixed history when it comes to dealing with social issues. I have no doubt Fey & Co. can pull apart the Men’s Rights activists that they poke fun at in this trailer; however, I see the handling of #MeToo with some messiness. Which is sad, because this show would be an excellent place to tackle that. When Fey is on she is amazingly thoughtful, clever and nuanced. When she’s off, she’s … sheet cake and writes episodes like “Kimmy Goes to a Play!” which are so tone deaf it pours acid all over everything else great about what she is doing.
It’s been established that this fourth season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be the last, and I hope that it ends on a high note, because I truly have enjoyed this show, warts and all. If they can find a way to bring back Dong and reunite Mikey/Titus, then that’ll be a perfect ending for me.
Are you guys looking forward to the final season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, damn it?
