New X-Files Series to Be More Like….the Old X-Files Series – Just the Way We Like It!
The lucky ducks that went to the FOX Television Critics Association session were treated to a scene from the upcoming X-Files limited series. Cue cries of jealousy.
The show will be a mix of mythology episodes and standalone episodes, much like it was in the original run. According to /Film, the scene they screened:
[Features] Scully frantically arriving at Mulder’s farmhouse because he’d hung up on her earlier. He’s talking X-Files again and she’s worried for his sanity. She tells him he wants to believe so badly, and he says that the truth is out there, while discussing the leads a new character named Tad O’Malley has given him. There’s also a young woman staying in Mulder’s house, but it’s purely related to research.
It’s interesting that they mention that the young woman that’s staying at Mulder’s is purely related to research, because it probably doesn’t make much difference to Scully. According to Spinoff Online, Mulder and Scully are no longer a couple on the new show; a move probably designed to separate it from the 2008 film, X-Files: I Want to Believe and have the revival be more in the spirit of the original show. In the promo reel shown at the TCA event, Scully tells Mulder that she is “your friend and physician.” Not exactly the way you talk to your boyfriend or husband, huh?
It’s probably for the best. After all, a romantic relationship isn’t the only way to be close to someone. Despite the lack of romance, Mulder and Scully will always be an amazing team with an intimate bond that can’t be shattered. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.
