[UPDATED] The Google Nexus 5 Will Probably Launch Today, So Here’s What We’re Expecting
The news can't get here fast enough.
[UPDATE – 2:09 PM] Dang, that was fast. The Google Nexus 5 is already available to purchase through the Google Play store for $349, just as predicted.
Okay, yes, we don’t officially know that the Nexus 5 is dropping today. But come on. The announcement — which we’ll know more about once the news embargo drops at about 2pm EDT today — is pretty much a formality at this point. With all the leaks that we’ve seen over the course of the past month, we have a pretty clear idea of what to expect.
The Nexus 5 will have Android Kit Kat.
The Android Kit Kat is to Google what iOS7 was to Apple. It’s their crowning software achievement. Of course it’s going in the new phone.
It will probably be sourced from LG.
That’s where the Nexus 4 was sourced from, after all. And according a number of different sources, it also boasts a 4.95-inch, 1080p display with 445 pixels-per-inch image density, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM, and an 8 megapixel rear camera with a 1.3 megapixel front camera.
There will be a 16GB version and a 32GB version.
There will also apparently be black and white colored Nexuses (Nexusees? Nexi? How does one pluralize the Nexus?) available, and it’ll have the standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity options.
You can’t remove the back or the battery from it.
That’s what the guy on this Reddit AMA thread says, at least. He got to spend some time with the phone and answered peoples’ questions about it last night.
It will probably retail for $349.
Both the Reddit AMA and this Twitter feed list the same price. According to the former, he’s about 99% certain of the price he’s quoted.
Kit Kat has a cloud-style back up program.
“Think iCloud but for Android,” user throwawaynexus5guy said. Supposedly this would back up all of your apps data, saved games, and settings for each app.
It will mostly likely be available the same day it’s announced.
So today? Possibly? That’s what this T-mobile employee seems to think.
People are not going to stop talking about it for the next week or so.
Yeah, you thought the iPhone buzz was nuts? You haven’t seen anything yet.
